What is reflexology?
Reflexology is the technique of applying gentle pressure to the reflexes on the feet and hands in order to bring about a state of deep relaxation, stimulate the body’s own healing processes and help a person to return to a state of balance and well-being. The reflex points on the feet correspond to various parts, organs and glands of the body, having an effect on their function. Reflexology aims to increase the body’s circulation, open up neural pathways and boost the immune system.
Reflexology stimulates blood flow and nervous reaction in the foot or hand and this has a corresponding effect throughout the body, as the entire body is linked by capillary and nervous tissue networks.
What Conditions Can Reflexology Help With?
Reflexology reduces stress and induces deep relaxation
Stress becomes a problem when we fail to manage it well, especially when stress results from problems, frustrations, overwork and worry. When we don’t handle stress it compromises our immune system and we become more susceptible to illness and disease. Much illness is stress-related.
Reflexology helps to reduce stress by producing a state of deep relaxation, placing the client in a ‘safe place’. It allows the nervous system to calm down and function more routinely. Circulation proceeds smoothly, blood flow is improved and oxygen reaches the cells. Energy flows, allowing healing to take place and the body, mind and spirit are brought back into balance.
Maternity and Fertility
The time spent with your reflexologist allows you to focus purely on yourself. It is really important, during what can be a very stressful and emotional time, that you take time to clear your mind, talk about how you are feeling and enjoy the deep relaxation that reflexology brings. Benefits you may experience include, deep relaxation, reduced anxiety, reduction in feelings of stress and improved sleep quality. Everyone's conception and maternity journeys are different and I will create a bespoke treatment plan just for you.
Reflexology improves circulation
It is important for blood to flow freely through the body, carrying oxygen and nutrients to all the cells that make up the tissues of the body and removing waste products and other toxins. It is vital that the blood vessels are functioning properly. Stress and tension tighten up these vessels and restrict blood flow. Couple this with sitting at your desk all day and your circulation becomes very sluggish. By reducing stress and tension, reflexology allows miles of cardiovascular vessels to conduct the flow of blood naturally and easily.
Reflexology balances the whole system
When all parts of the body are functioning properly together in balance this creates a healthy body. Excessive stress disrupts this balance and can knock some parts of the system out of balance. Reflexology can help to restore this balance.
Other benefits of reflexology
Pain relief; improved elimination; nerve stimulation; human touch interaction; improved immune system; assists post-operative recovery; encourages the body to heal current disorders; clearing the body of toxins and waste products.
Reflexology cannot heal conditions, instead it helps to stimulate the body’s own healing process. Reflexology can help a person cope with the effects of stress, headaches, sleep problems, PMS, conception, fertility, maternity, digestive issues and many other conditions.
